Great Egret Building a Nest

Great Egret Building a Nest

The male Great Egret builds a nest from long sticks and twigs before pairing up with a female, and then the pair may work together to finish the nest, or the male sometimes finishes it himself. Their nest is up to 3 feet across and 1 foot deep and lined with pliable plant material that dries to form a cup structure. They aren't among birds that reuse nests from one year to the next.
